PRATT & WHITNEY solved the problem of F-35 Engines!

F-135 ENGINE for F-35

Pratt & Whitney is confident that the problems with the STOVL version of the F135 engine powering the F-35B have been solved. At the Paris Air Show last week, Chris Flynn, vice president of fifth-generation programs, said that solutions to the lift-fan clutch engagement, driveshaft expansion and roll-post heating were all in production. Flynn noted that F-35Bs had amassed 508 flight test hours, and 116 vertical landings. Shipboard trials are scheduled for October, when two F-35Bs will deploy to an LHD-class vessel for two weeks.

ECO HYPERSONIC PLANE!!

Global airplane manufacturer EADS, famous for its Airbus craft, has partnered with the French aerospace laboratory ONERA to study the feasibility of a high-speed concept plane that could travel at Mach 4 (over 3,000 miles per hour) and almost 32 km high, all while keeping environmental impact low.

Calling the project the Zero Emission High Supersonic Transpot (ZEHST), the goal of the program is to create an aircraft that can go from Tokyo, Japan to Paris, France in only two and a half hours, with C02 emissions reduced by 75% compared to 2000 levels under goals set by The European Commission.

SINGAPORE AIRSHOW 2011 will be EXPENSIVE!

Asia's biggest air show next year will indeed be the biggest, and probably also the most expensive.

Organisers said it may cost a tenth more than the previous edition - which means Singapore Airshow 2012 could exceed US$24 million to stage. Some spending will go to new elements in the programme.
The biennial show heads into its third instalment next year. The first, in 2008, cost some S$20 million to organise.

There weren't only planes on display at the Paris Air Show, and organisers of Singapore's version of the event are taking notes. The Singapore Airshow will have a land defence component for the first time.
Organisers said this will cater to the expanding industry, which has been forecast to grow to US$9.4 billion in five years.Exhibition space will also be set aside to cater to increasing interest in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.

BAN ON BABIES on MALAYSIAN FIRST CLASS!

Of course who can withstand the siren of babies crying except their parents. this seems to be reason for  ban of babies on board first class of malaysian airlines. The carrier decided to implement a ban on babies in the first class cabins of their new Airbus A380 aircraft. Those planes are expected to come into service next year.

Malaysia Airlines has already banned infants from the first class cabins on its Boeing 747-400 jets.

According to news reports, the airline received customer complaints about crying babies in the first class cabin. Malaysia Airlines CEO Tengku Azmil said that passengers who spend a lot of money for first-class seats are often unable to sleep. He tweeted that "We already hand out noise cancellation headphones in 1st class. They don't work so well for babies crying."

In addition to flying routes in Southeast Asia, Malaysia Airlines also carries passengers on long-distance routes to Europe.

EMERGENCY @ INDIRA GANDHI AIRPORT!

An American Airlines flight carrying 231 passengers and a crew of 15 made an emergency landing soon after the aircraft took off from the Indira Gandhi International Airport here around Monday midnight, officials said Tuesday.

American Airlines, which operates daily-direct flights between New Delhi and Chicago, said that the flight commander requested to make an emergency landing due to a technical snag in one of the engines.

'Emergency landing procedures were carried out by airport fire and medical service. As an American Airlines flight requested to land back here, due to technical difficulties,' a senior Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) official told IANS.

According to the official, the aircraft landed back safely and that all required safety procedures were carried out.

'All 231 passengers are safe. The aircraft took-off at 12.25 a.m. and landed back at 12.47 a.m.,' the official said.

'Captain contacted Delhi authorities and informed them that he would be making an emergency landing because of a problem with the electrical generator system on the right engine,' said the company in a statement, adding that the aircraft landed after dumping fuel.

The company further said that technical repairs were being carried out on its Boeing 777-200 ER (extended range) aircraft and that the flight will take off again for Chicago by 4.00 p.m..

The statement further added that the passengers were accommodated in city hotels.

Passengers on board said they suffered from an information blackout as they kept sitting for several hours, first in the parked aircraft on the runway and then in the airport terminal.

Second air force SCRAMJET failed!

The Air Force launched its second of four X-51A rockets last weekend.

The flight followed a first flight more than a year ago, which was terminated early due to an overheating problem that turned out to be critical at a speed of about mach 4 and a flight time of just over 2 minutes. This time, the scramjet-powered X-51A topped mach 5 following a drop from a B-52H bomber at an altitude of about 50,000 feet. However, the test flight failed as the rocket did not transition from ethylene to JP7 jet fuel as the power source. Data collected during the flight is now used to prepare the third flight, which is scheduled to take place sometime this fall.

X-51 waverider on the pylon of B-52 bomber
The Air Force, vehicle designer Boeing and engine manufacturer Pratt-Whitney delayed the second flight several times from the original launch date of March 22.

The X-51A is Air Force’s most significant research in advanced rocket engines since the original X-15 more than 50 years ago. At the heart of the vehicle is an SJY61 combustion “scramjet” engine made by Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne that burns JP7 jet fuel. Scramjets burn atmospheric oxygen and do not require fuel tanks with oxidizer like conventional rockets. Boeing Phantom Works designed the X-51A, which is built from materials such as aluminum, steel, inconel, carbon composites and titanium. There is also a silica-based thermal protection system similar to that used on the space shuttles.

ASH CLOUDS In East Africa!

Airlines that travel through East Africa said Monday they are keeping an eye on an ash cloud after a volcano eruption in the Horn of Africa nation of Eritrea, and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said the eruption is forcing her to cut short a three-nation African tour.
Clinton was to have spent Monday night in Ethiopia’s capital but will now leave immediately because the ash cloud from Monday’s explosion in Eritrea is heading toward the city.

U.S. officials said the airport at Addis Ababa was to be closed. That meant Clinton faced being stranded if she had proceeded with her planned meetings in Ethiopia on Tuesday.
Spokesman Getachew Tesfa said Ethiopian Airlines is closely watching the cloud with the help of weather experts.

Germany’s Lufthansa airline is also watching. Spokesman Marco Dall’Asta said flights from Frankfurt to the capitals of Ethiopia and Eritrea may be affected by the volcano.

The Volcanic Ash Advisory Center, which advises the aviation industry about volcano eruptions, said Eritrea’s Dubbi volcano began erupting early Monday. Eritrea borders Sudan, Ethiopia and Djibouti. It has a population of about 5 million people.

JET & GO-AIR to order more airbus aircrafts.

India’s largest private airline Jet Airways and budget carrier GoAir are in line to order $6.5 billion worth of Airbus aircraft at the forthcoming Paris Air Show, The Economic Times reported on Thursday. The financial daily quoted Jet chairman Naresh Goyal as saying that they were buying 10 A330 aircraft worth $2.5 billion as part of plans to expand its routes in Europe.

GoAir is looking to order at least 50 narrow-body A320 jets worth $4 billion for short-haul domestic routes, which will be brought into service as soon as next year, the report said, quoting two sources familiar with the matter. Both orders were still being negotiated but were in the final stages, the newspaper added, quoting unnamed sources within Airbus.

A Jet Airways spokeswoman in New Delhi said that she had no details on the exact nature of the orders, as Goyal was speaking on the sidelines of the recent International Air Transport Association annual general meeting in Singapore. But she added: “We’re asking for just a few (aircraft) because that’s in line and keeping with our growth plan.”—Newswire

JET AIRWAYS to Order A330s for European Expansion!

The country’s largest airline by passengers carrier Jet Airways (India) Ltd will order long-haul Airbus SAS made A330 aircraft pushing ahead with an aggressive international expansion over the next three years, the airlines chairman Naresh Goyal said on the sidelines of an international airline summit here.

“We are already ordering aircraft, we are in the process of finalizing certain leases, we are ordering more Boeing 737s and we are ordering Airbus A330s. These will be delivered in the next 2-3 years,” Goyal said without expanding further on the order quantity.

An Airbus A330 has a sticker price of just over $200 million.

He said the airline is not facing any shortage of leased Boeing 737 aircraft which it uses for its domestic, South East Asian and Middle East operations.

“We are signing some of the leases (for Boeing 737),” he said he reply to a question on shortage of B737 supply adding, ”Its not difficult for Jet Airways”.

Jet has a fleet of 116 aircraft with 12 Airbus A330 and 10 B777 wide-body aircraft meant for long-haul international operations.

“We are looking at some of the European expansion. We have applied to the aviation ministry for traffic rights, I hope those clearances come so that we as a Indian carrier can play a further important role for the convenience of customers and (in getting) India’s market share (of international traffic) what we deserve,” he said adding Paris, Rome, Amsterdam, points in Germany, continental Europe are the targets besides Shanghai and Beijing in China.

Jet that connects over 24 international cities started shifting its network operation to hubs beyond those with Indian population in 2010. It started flights to Milan last year using the A330s.

Goyal said he estimates international growth at 12-15% annually while domestic market should expand 11-12% over the next few years.

EMIRATES Wants LONGER RANGE Planes.

The Middle East's largest airline, Emirates, is telling Boeing and Airbus it wants them to squeeze more range out of their new and existing aircraft.

Emirates President Tim Clark said in Singapore this week that the airline is considering buying more long-range jets from both Boeing and Airbus.

Emirates has made Dubai a world air hub with its fleet of mostly new aircraft.

Clark told reporters he wants Boeing to begin soon on upgrades to its 777-300ER twin-jet to improve range and fuel efficiency. Boeing has talked about upgrading the popular plane with substantial modifications in the next few years.

Clark likewise wants Airbus to pump up the range of its super jumbo jet, the A380 so that it can serve more destinations non-stop from Dubai.

Airbus announced this week that the sole engine supplier for its A350-1000 jet, Rolls Royce, would produce a higher thrust engine for the stretched version of the yet-to-be-built aircraft to improve its range by some 500 miles.

AIR CANADA PLANE WINDSHIELD GETS CRACKED.

An Air Canada plane en route to Montreal from San Francisco was forced to land in Winnipeg when the windshield fractured during the flight Friday morning.

The Airbus 319, with 82 passengers on board, was over southern Minnesota when the window broke.

The pilot was able to land the plane in Winnipeg without having to declare an emergency.

Over the last 10 years, 38 planes in the U.S. have had their windshields break mid-flight, and over a year ago, another plane diverted to Winnipeg for a shattered window.

INDIA to get 10 BOEING C-17s

The cabinet committee on security (CCS) has approved proposal to buy 10 C-17 heavy lift aircraft worth $4.1 billion from US-based Boeing.

CCS has cleared the purchase of aircrafts from US through Foreign Military Sales (FMS) and the deal is hailed as the biggest defense deal between two countries.

The last big defense deal with US is $2.1 billion for procurement of eight P-8I maritime surveillance and anti-submarine warfare aircraft from Boeing through direct commercial sales in 2009.

JET AIRWAYS sets record in INDIAN AVIATION!

Jet Airways is claiming a new record for the Indian aviation industry, having carried a record 2m passengers in May 2011.

This is the highest number of people ever transported by an airline of Indian origin on its domestic and international network in a single month.

Some 1.55m guests travelled on Jet Airways' domestic and global flights, while a further 470,000 flew with JetLite.

International passenger numbers increased by 17% compared to May last year, a rise that the company attributed to codeshare agreements, new routes and its award-winning product offering.

Chief executive officer Nikos Kardassis said: 'Besides helping and consolidate our leadership position in Indian skies, this new milestone of flying 2m guests further reiterates the fact that Jet Airways, Jet Airways Konnect and JetLite have all catered to distinct passenger segments.'

The airline operates a network that includes flights to several destinations across India, as well as international locations including London Heathrow, Hong Kong, Kathmandu and New York.

In Greek mythology, Telemos was the prophetic son of Eurymos, known for having the vision and foresight to warn Polyphemus about an attack by Odysseus.

The two companies will jointly present the capabilities that underpin the Telemos programme at the Paris Air Show from June 20th - 26th.

F-16s BEATS Typhoons!!

In an air combat exercises in turkey the Eurofighter typhoons (the aircrafts that are grabbed by IAF deal) are beaten by the older 1970s F-16 viper variants.Pakistani pilots (PAF) flying modernised versions of the 1970s-vintage F-16 Falcon fighter have beaten the RAF's brand-new Eurofighter Typhoon superfighters.

There were three set ups and in all the three set ups the RAF's Typhoons are knocked down by PAF's F-16s.RAF's pilots were shocked!!

The Anatolian Eagle air-combat exercises are hosted by the Turkish air force and would have seen Pakistani pilots on exchange with the Turks flying modernised Turkish "Block 50" F-16s, a much-upgraded version of the original US made 1970s Fighting Falcon, which is now in service with many air forces and assembled under licence in various countries including Turkey.

PRATT & WHITNEY seeking ways to reduce the cost of F-35 Engines!!

The F-35 fighter program is over budget and behind schedule, but the contractors are working hard to get back cut costs and adhere to time schedules. One of the most costly components of the F-35 is its engine made by Pratt & Whitney. The company has announced that it is working to lower the price of the engine and that the price could drop even more in the coming years.

This news comes ahead of the start of negotiations between the Pentagon and primary contractor Lockheed Martin for the next batch of fighters. Bennett Croswell, president of Pratt & Whitney military engines said, "We have activities planned and in place to bring the cost down in [low-rate initial production] 5."

BOMBARDIER goes for Robots in assembling Cseries Fleet

Bombardier Aerospace (Montrèal, Quebec, Canada) on May 31 announced that it expects to achieve predictable repeatability and enhanced quality while preventing ergonomic issues on the production line for the CSeries aircraft by using six 12-ton (10.89 metric ton) robots in the assembly of the composite cockpit and fuselage of the jetliner. In addition, the company also expects to reduce by more than 40 hours the cycle time needed to assemble the aircraft.

“The use of advanced robotic technology is emblematic of the clean-sheet approach we’ve taken to building the CSeries aircraft,” said Francois Minville, vice president, CSeries Manufacturing, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft. “The use of the robots will enable us to offer a superior aircraft at the best cost to our operators.”

Until now, Bombardier aircraft were assembled largely by hand. However, at a diameter of 12 ft/3.7m, the fuselage of the CSeries family of aircraft is larger than any airliner ever built by Bombardier. The wider fuselage offers superior comfort for passengers, but poses an ergonomic challenge during assembly

ROLLS ROYCE forced by airbus on redesign of engine for its A350 1000 variant!!

Airbus said last week the first version of the aircraft, the middle-sized A350-900, would be out in late 2013 as planned.

A major engine overhaul would be a climbdown for Airbus and Rolls, which had defended the Trent XWB as a good all-rounder. The XWB is a cousin of the Trent 900 that blew up on an A380 last year.

Rolls-Royce could be forced to examine modifying the core of the engine for the A350-1000, the hottest and most sophisticated part of a jet engine that eats up most development spending.

That is because other changes, such as increasing the size of its already massive 3-metre (118 inch) fan, are difficult to carry out without altering the structure of the plane, leading to even more costs, a senior industry source told Reuters.

AIRBUS on its upgradation of engine design for its A350.

Rolls-Royce is set to bow to airline pressure by building a new engine for the Airbus A350, a costly rethink of strategy for Europe's newest airliner, aviation industry sources said on Monday.

trent xwB on field

The plan would involve a major overhaul of Rolls-Royce's largest civil jet engine and give the Airbus A350 some missing muscle to compete with Boeing's popular long-range 777-300ER.

QANTAS replaced engines on its A380 fleet

Australia's biggest carrier Qantas Airways Ltd. has replaced 24 engines on its fleet of Airbus A380 superjumbos after one of them last year suffered a midair engine explosion near Singapore, its chief executive said Monday.

The A380 damaged in November's incident is expected to return to service by February after repairs costing A$100 million are completed, Alan Joyce said in Singapore on the sidelines of an International Air Transport Association event.

The repair costs will be borne by insurance, while Qantas' other aircraft are flying normally, he said.

Joyce's comments follow a Australian Transport Safety Bureau report last month that said a manufacturing defect in the pipes of a Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engine had led to the engine explosion which forced the Sydney-bound Qantas A380 to make an emergency landing in Singapore.

Qantas had temporarily grounded all its A380 planes after the incident.

Asked about plans by rival Singapore Airlines Ltd. (C6L.SG) to start a short- and long-haul low fare airline, Joyce said: "Imitation is the best form of flattery."

The proposed Singapore Airlines low-fare unit is expected to compete with Jetstar, a unit of Qantas and Malaysia's AirAsia X, which is owned by AirAsia Bhd.

AF 447 switched control laws in its final times.

French accident investigation agency Bureau d'Enquetes et d'Analyses (BEA) In its probe into crash of AF447 revealed that aircraft control systems switched control laws before crash which put the aircraft into nose-up attitude.

The Airbus A330 did not enter the abnormal attitude law after it stalled, despite its excessive angle of attack, this law is a subset of alternate law on the aircraft and is triggered when the angle of attack exceeds 30° or when certain other inertial parameters - pitch and roll - become greater than threshold levels.

e-Genius : the electric plane with airbus backing!!

e-Genius is a electrical powered plane designed by the Germans. The aircraft successfully completed a 20-minute flight on May 26th, followed by a two-and-a-half hour trip on Sunday. Where the Elektra one (previously designed one) boasted cruising speeds of 160 km/h (about 99 MPH), eGenius is capable of hitting 235 km/h (146 MPH) for up to 400 kilometers (248.5 miles). It sports a 60-kilowatt motor, weighs 850 kilograms (1,874 pounds), and has some big backing from the likes of Airbus. Considering its relatively limited range and equally limited capacity it fits two humans with a combined weight of 397 pounds( 200 kgs)

FARIDABAD CRASH:Regulation violation DGCA!!

The May 25 crash in the Haryana town on the outskirts of the national capital had claimed 10 lives, including the seven on board.

The buzz is that the crash is result of violation of civil aviation requirements, according to it:Air safety norms allow single engine planes on domestic routes except for medical evacuation flights. Single engine planes cannot withstand strong winds and cannot handle sudden emergencies.

The aircraft is a single engined pilatus p-12 which carried 7 on-board which crashed due to storm weather conditions.

Investigators are now probing how the aircraft was cleared to take off from Patna carrying a critically ill patient and the DGCA personnel responsible for clearing the flight.

SKYMARK airlines to get aid from BOEING!!

Boeing Commercial Aviation Services supports more than 12,100 Boeing commercial jetliners (passenger and freighter airplanes) with value-driven lifecycle solutions that deliver the fundamentals of aviation support — training, spare parts, diagnostic tools, maintenance documents and information, technical advice and modification programs, announced Skymark Airlines as the newest airline to join the Boeing 737 Component Services Program (CSP), a move that will help the airline reduce its spare parts costs, an important advantage in the low-cost carrier marketplace. In addition to reducing costs, the program will help Skymark enhance efficiency and improve spare parts availability.

The program can help airlines save as much as 30 percent on inventory, repair and administrative costs.
