Jet Airways is claiming a new record for the Indian aviation industry, having carried a record 2m passengers in May 2011.
This is the highest number of people ever transported by an airline of Indian origin on its domestic and international network in a single month.
Some 1.55m guests travelled on Jet Airways' domestic and global flights, while a further 470,000 flew with JetLite.
International passenger numbers increased by 17% compared to May last year, a rise that the company attributed to codeshare agreements, new routes and its award-winning product offering.
Chief executive officer Nikos Kardassis said: 'Besides helping and consolidate our leadership position in Indian skies, this new milestone of flying 2m guests further reiterates the fact that Jet Airways, Jet Airways Konnect and JetLite have all catered to distinct passenger segments.'
The airline operates a network that includes flights to several destinations across India, as well as international locations including London Heathrow, Hong Kong, Kathmandu and New York.
