"The Indian public would get a chance to get a first-ever glimpse of the Dreamliner. The plane will fly to Delhi from Tokyo and then to Mumbai and fly back to Seattle non-stop," said Keskar, President, Air India
The 787 Dreamliner is being touted as a super-efficient airplane that will provide airlines with unmatched fuel efficiency.
The airplane will use 20% less fuel for comparable missions than today's similarly sized airplane.
It will also travel at a speed similar to today's fastest wide bodies, Mach 0.85.
The demand for the aircraft has been unprecedented with 857 units already being sold.
Boeing is likely to begin Dreamliner deliveries to Air India (AI) in the fourth quarter after persistent delays.
A miffed AI management had slapped a notice on the aviation giant demanding compensation of about $850 million. AI had placed an order for 27 B-787 Dreamliners.
According to the original schedule, the first such aircraft was to be delivered in September 2008 followed by one each in the subsequent months.
By March 2011, Boeing was scheduled to have delivered 18 of these premium aircrafts to Air India.
